At the commemoration of the 2026 World Malaria Day in Ikorodu

Lagos State Health District II, in partnership with Lafarge Africa Plc, commemorated the 2026 World Malaria Day with a medical outreach programme at the Ita Elewa Primary Health Centre in Ikorodu on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

The event, themed “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”, focuses on malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Speaking at the event, the Medical Officer of Health at Ita Elewa Primary Health Centre, Dr. Debo Dapo-Ojo, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Health District II, expressed appreciation to Lafarge for supporting the initiative and bringing essential health services to the grassroots.

She noted that although World Malaria Day is observed globally on April 25, saying that the outreach served as a continued effort to sustain awareness and action against malaria.

She emphasised the need for increased investment, innovation, and community participation to combat rising insecticide and drug resistance, particularly in protecting vulnerable groups such as children.

Also speaking is the Head of Sustainability and Sponsorship at Lafarge Africa Plc, Mr Gabriel Abinye Pollyn, who stated that the commemoration serves as a reminder that the fight against malaria requires urgent and collective action.

According to him, the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focus on health and well-being, with sustained investments in preventive healthcare, awareness campaigns, and access to essential interventions aimed at strengthening community resilience.

“We believe that a healthy community is the foundation for sustainable development,” he said, while also commending Lagos State Health District II and the management of the Primary Health Centre for their collaboration and commitment to improving public health outcomes.

The outreach featured free malaria testing, distribution of treated mosquito nets, and the provision of medications to residents. The programme was conducted in collaboratnet with other partners, including Leadway Health and Society for Family Health, ensuring that vulnerable members of the community were adequately reached.
